Nice shots John. I remember this section well. You accessed at the Ignacio Tank(tender) if I recall, then east toward Gato.
We first did this in 1966 chasing 484 from Durango to Gato on the 2 car water car train. Then again in 1968 with 498 eastbound toward Chama. We had a truck camper that year and it had a rear door with a full size height opening.
My brother and I shot pictures with the rear door open while pacing(my dad driving). My brother used my dads 8mm camera for the first time on this trip(he was 14 or 15). We have a couple of nice clips just about half way back the tender looking forward along the cab and running gear along this gravel road. Of course the shots out the back were sorted dusted by the ourselves in the camper.....not too bright, but fun. Will have to see about getting some of these scanned and posted some day. I had a cruddy instamatic, and got a 35mm the next year(1969). At least I have some slides anyway. That section of track was like the NG "Racetrack", similar to the new C&TS stuff out of Antonito. Silverton line is well-kept today also....probably far better than in the 50's and 60's for that matter.
However with the weeds, scrub, and cinder ballast it is part of the NG scene that I remember throughout the D&RGW for the most part.

(PS Ohio was worse than Windy Point today) I got a nice 2 hour break from doing orders when the power went out!
