Very interesting.
On the surface this sounds positive, as the role of the commission is now clearly defined as oversight of a professional management team, rather than any sort of direct management (or micromanagement - ahem) role and that's an entirely appropriate job for a politically appointed commission. And CTSMC certainly gets a nice kudo in the release in their role as a professional management team.
Also interesting is this:
Currently, the Commission manages the day-to-day operations of the railroad with a full staff while the management company maintains its own, separate staff. Really? This sounds like past wishful thinking on the part of the Governors. Since when did the commision actually have either "a full staff" or actually attempt full "day-to-day" management? I know the commission's oversight and decision making roles have been far stronger than they were back in the Scenic, Kyle, Bartholomew days, but it hardly seems as though it's been day-to-day or hands-on. And speaking of the "full staff" what does this mean for the executive director position? Sure sounds like that disappears.
I guess we'll see how all of this plays out for now, but my initial knee-jerk reaction is that I like the sound of it.
