Amazingly unremarked on this board (or anywhere else) was the 50th Anniversary of the last run of the San Juan. It rolled into history on a bitterly cold January 31, 1951, ending (at that time) over three quarters of a century of narrow-gauge passenger service on the D&RG (remember, in 1951, the Silverton was a mixed train).
I would hope that at least a beer or two was hoisted at Foster's commemorating an era that ended 50 years ago--and the miracle that a railroad that "should" have been gone many years ago will again steam to life come summer.
