Hi Thor,
The Leighton Buzzard line in the UK is finishing up their restoration of a Baldwin 4-6-0T. It has had a new boiler fabricated. This has been installed and the engine recently passed its steam test. Thanks to 4 very generous donors, the locomotive should be ready to resume service in 2007 in its "as-built" (i.e. WWI) condition.
The Welsh Highland group in Portmadoc has a similar locomotive they plan on rebuilding to resemble the original line's #590. Another Baldwin (or two) still exists in India and another is in a museum in Greece.
As you probably already know, the ffestiniog is presently rebuilding their Alco 2-6-2T (the Mountaineer), which has been significantly rebuilt and has seen many valiant years of service on that line. The "Little Train of the Somme" in France has an operational mate to this locomotive, also restired to WWI condition.
Check out their website at URL

The locomotive at Fort Benning is a Davenport 2-6-2T.
The books you reference list several of these locomotives.
Best Regards,
Glenn
