The engine on the ready track has a "490" look to it. The K28 has a skinny flat top whistle like 478's 3 chime. 473 had a step top 5 chime.
I wonder where they are going with the rail. The track straight ahead of the table was stub ended until the new loop went in in 1968.
476 and 478 spent the winter of 67-68 in Alamosa. 473 was the only K28 left in DGO. It was scheduled to go to ALA in Dec 67 but the trip got snowed out. 497 and 498 were the only other engines in DGO in the winter of 67-68. Not sure of the date 478 went over to Ala in the fall of 67 (Oct I think). 476 went over in Nov.
The only K37's running in 67-68 were 493, 497 (67 only) and 498. 493 had a plow, which leaves us 497 or 498.
The passenger equipment didn't go to ALA for the winter in 67-68.
So when is the pic taken? dunno. If the K28 is 478 (the whistle gives that away to me). It can't be 1968. There would be no reason to have the K37 under steam before April when the first freight train ran - and the coal tipple was gone by then - giving another case against 1968.
The water tower came down in early 1967. Perhaps this is when the pic was taken. I don;t have my engine dispatch records handy, but I think 476 and 478 were on the deadhead passenger move in the spring of 67.
So....late May 1967????? Other engine 498????
