I am on the committee for the 2011 National narrow gauge convention, and I can confirm that yes indeed it will be in Hickory NC. Made the presentation in Durango.
I cannot answer the question about Tweetsie's lease situation. I oversee the small museum on the park grounds, and the management has not told anyone what the plan is. I do know that the neighboring county has offered some incentives to move, so if the leases are not worked out, there will be a place to move to.
I had a meeting with management after getting the convention, and was assured that by 2011 Tweetsie Railroad would be able to put on a kick butt show for the narrow gauge convention, no matter which location they are in.
Planning is already underway for this first-ever-in-the-South National Narrow Gauge Convention.
