Ironically I believe that out of all the K-37’s the 497 is the only one that has not had major boiler work done to it since the late 1920’s when it was converted to NG. Except of coarse the replacement of both flue sheets and crown knuckle done by the C&TS in I think 1994. The D&S also did some mud ring work under the fire door when they had it.
The 492 on the other hand had the barrel of the boiler replaced in the 1940’s according to it’s form 4. I believe it also got a fire box on that shopping.
The running gears of the K36 & K-37 are very similar. In the lean Kyle years of the 1980’s , the 484 acquired the drivers , driving boxes, shoes & wedges ext. of the 495 so that it could continue to use up boiler time with out spending a bunch of money the rail road didn’t have at the time.
