The wooden tank at Tank Creek was replaced around 1966. I don't think I've ever seen a shot of just the water tank. It's location on a curve in a real narrow part of the canyon would have made it tough to shoot. I remember a picture of it (from back in the train) in a late 60's edition of Cinder's and Smoke. Picture was to note that the old tank was gone and the tank car body had replaced it.
Does the D&S still have problems with the valve freezing? A couple times I rode the winter train, there was evidence that the section crew built a fire under the tank to thaw the valve. Of course, an old "real" water tank wouldn't have that problem, but back in 1966 who'd have thought there would ever be winter trains on the Silverton Branch?
