Wade:
My knowledge of D&S operations is very sparse, but I do recall a story shortly after Charles Bradshaw bought the line in 1981. Seems the Tacoma power plant in the Animas canyon had to replace a flume pipe, and contracted with the railroad to bring in the new pipe sections and haul out the old since it was the only ground transportation available in the area. I also heard at the time that Bradshaw was quite interested in offering freight service, as the revenues would help the overall operations. Sorry this is such an ancient example, but perhaps others out there would know of more recent freights.
Last November the D&S announced that it had volunteered to haul some bighorn sheep into the Animas River Gorge in January to help establish a foothold population there. But of course that’s not a revenue project.
