Smitty, this may not be quite what you were looking for, but hopefully a little interesting if you haven't seen it. In the roster material we have that was researched and compiled by Mr. John Lewis at the Nat. Archives: this is listed as "Section Motor Car built by Northwestern Motor Co. Model "Casey Jones" #551, 4 cyl Ford engine of 22 HP, Wood Frame superstructure built by SVRy; lgth. 9'0"; width 6'0"; Capacity 3000#. Weight of the car was 2900#.
It was number 14 and entered service under AFE 298 6/25/29 and was retired under AFE 342 10/01/31. It is shown as transfered to ACCT. #37 which is Titled Roadway Machines. I do not have a copy of the information from this acct. other than what he saw was there initially in 1916, so I don't know when the unit met it's final retirement. Act 37 has Sheffeild push cars and at least one Fairmont back in 1916.
The trailer was number 15 with the same AFE's and dates. The info say Frame superstructure built by SVRy on Northwestern "Casey Jones" #500 push car; Lgth 10'3"; Width 5'7 1/2"; Capacity 441 Cu. Ft. and 4000# Weight of trailer 1020#.
My understanding is that it was purchased for and used briefly to provide service between Austin and Prarrie City. My question is what kind of brakes did it have? We are talking about a combined loaded weight of the car and trailer of 10,920lbs. This might have been quite exiciting on the decent down a 3-4% grade, and one mighty slow trip up with a 22HP model T engine.
