A good example of a "homemade" smoke box front was on Oahu Railway #80. It never looked as good as the other three 2-8-2s to me, they had their original smoke box fronts until the end. Apparently, #80 was in a wreck of some sort and the OR&L shop simply built a new, flat one. -- Ed
