Has anyone considered perhaps building a database with all the different steam locomotives and railroads with the status, etc.? We could almost use a similar forum such as this to allow people to post updates on equipment, locations of equipment, photos (of equipment preferrable and not the dog), etc. as they become known. Then when people ask what is the status os such and such (I am bad about that because I am way out here on the East Coast) all we would have to do is pull it up and you can see a status of everything. I think Hubert's RGS page would be a good example but expand upon that.
I started to compile such a database years ago (sorry, lost it when the computer became a lightning rod) so that I could model a particular date on the RGS. I'd know where stuff was and so on. Even some "weather guessing" - based upon the sky and moisture on the ground. I believe Charlie Flichman has been compiling such a comprehensive list on the RGS from all the RGS books and photos.
