The volunteers ran a train eastbound to pick up some more cars at Antonito after the first westbound reached Chama. The cars and locomotives were delivered in three installments. I don't remember hearing anything special about this run other than it went east.
I was not present. I thought this occurred earlier than October, 1970. I know a westbound was run, complete with a fake train robbery, in 1970. I think they called that the Governors' Special. Neither governor attended but plenty of dignitaries did.
The June, 1971, run was well documented. This was the actual first revenud run of the railroad.
My first trip was in July, 1970, when we rode from Antonito to Sublette and back. The trip was supposed to go only to Big Horn but since the Lava Tank burned, the 484 was run to Sublette for water.
