Thanks, Greg. An unplanned shot for sure--I was talking to Chris Tookey and Lynn Hutson, the 2 ladies in the second picture, when I realized the train had turned on the wye and was headed back up the main. I had to put down my root beer float, go around parked vehicles, get on the station platform, and barely had time to get the picture. And there was nobody at the station to clutter up the scene.
During all the years of my rail photography, some of my personal favorites were totally unplanned. Fortunately my best narrow gauge pictures date back before photo lines, paved roads up Cumbres, fake paint and lettering jobs, etc.
This morning's departure of the Trains Unlimited special was quite enjoyable--cold weather made for lots of condensing steam, the 2 runbys at the station were quite nice in the early morning sun, and the first runby was at full throtle--quite spectacular. The train should be at Elk Park by about now to meet the scheduled train due at Elk Park at 11:18 a.m. I believe.
