Mike: none my books has a good right hand side view of 537, but the left side appears to have a Nathan non-lifting injector. If you have access to a reprint of the 1930 Locomotive Cyclopedia there is a picture of one on page 399 fig. 652. These injectors have been "repro-ed" (to use an automotive restoration term) in China and Poland. We had one of the Polish ones on the left side of the 2248 in Ft. Worth.
(Yeah, we know ALL the Polish injector jokes, including "it sucks water out of the boiler and puts it in the tank...." ha ha).
Up in the cab is a steam valve (starting valve) that turns the thing on and off.
It was a good gun except the importers forgot the "technical support" end and didn't import spare nozzles. So when the cheapo brass cast nozzles wore out in a year, it put more water on the ground than in the the boiler. Just like working on my old Mustang, the original old parts always work better and last longer than the "repro-ed" junk.
Can't help ya with the right side though.
