In service on the D&RGW, 476 had a fairly high pitched chime whistle. It too, was very distinctive, and can be heard on recordings of those days.
Soon after the line and equipment was sold to Charles Bradshaw, some ignorant moron broke into the roundhouse and stole 476's whistle, probably to "preserve" it in his own basement.
Immediately afterward came armed guards, the fence, and about 20 years of attitude adjustment on the part of persons, such as myself, who had become accustomed to having had the run of the yard and facilities for so long.
I realize this isn't the whistle you are asking about, but I'd sure like to see 476's whistle returned where it rightfully belongs. It is useless for being able to sell it for what it really is, because everyone who would value it knows it is stolen.
This has never been forgotten, and shouldn't be, for a host of reasons.
