Earl the air wizard

I believe 26 air is an early 1960's invention. I've seen valves with dates of 1963 cast in them. Before 26 there was 24RL. It is a more complicated valve, and to be honest I've only seen a couple and never used one. Lots of 50's diesels had 24. 24 I believe has pressure maintaining also, but you had to place the valve in a "maintaining position" manually.
El Coke, your probably thinking of 8ET that commonly got put on large locomotives (especially passenger). Locomotives such as 4449 and 3751 I believe still have 8ET brakes.
