I heard the same thing, though the number plate seen on the #456 in later years is not the original brass plate, though it is round. The plate on the #458 went to Mexico along with the engine in 1941. The #454 kept its original plate throughout it's carreer, and as I understand it, the plate still exists though I do not know where.
