Thanks John for sharing:
The station agent's name at this time in Placerville was Charles Welbon. Here is an excerpt about him from Dorman's RGS Pictorial Vol. I.
Charles Welbon was station agent for 37 years at Placerville until his retirement in the the mid nineteen thirties. It was according to his daughter and only offspring, (Amanda McSpadden) a sixteen hour day job to keep things in order with himself and his wife. Mrs. Welbon kept the records and daily journals, she was also an employee for the Express Company. They had a company safe and shipped considerable bullion in the earlier days. Although there was the "tough element", cowboys, miners, sheepherders, gamblers and of course, railroad men, they never had a robbery.

Which brings up a question...was the agent and/or his wife also an employee of Western Union? Did stations that had Western Union service have a separate employee or did the D&RGW or RGS agent get separately reimbursed for this service? Maybe a question for Amos Cordova if he is available....
