During WW II the Guv'mint did a study and found "sea foam green" calmed workers and suppressed daydreaming and clockwatching. Why? Nobody would look at it! I believe that D&RGW locomotives have had green interiors for some time, going back to the 1930s. even earlier. As another poster stated, the cab would be very dark if painted black.
