Parts of the K & K were the narrow gauge Pittsburgh & Western,(which was bought by the B&O and standard gauged)and the Big Level & Kinzua (which was part of the Bradford,Bordell & Kinzua). My father was born and raised in Mt. Jewett, and I spent many delightful days visiting my grandmother, exploring the industrial archeolgy of McKean County. The remnants and rights of ways of both narrow and standard gauge lines in and around Mt.Jewett, and nearby Kushequa were many, although each year the elements taking their toll. The ruins of the many brick and tile works, the sawmill and other industrial concerns were fascinating. They were (and may still be) the property of the Kane family, who were a major force in the county from the late 1890's up through the Great Depression. My Great grand fathers worked for the Kanes, a realtionship my grandmother kept up untill her passing. Thus we were permitted to explore the ruins that was once Kushequa's industrial heart.
