About the question of the spark arrestor:
Let's keep in mind that the bigger portion of her operating service was without the Ridgeway. She came to the DSP&P in Feb. 1884 as No. 72 (iirc) and the very earliest she could have been fitted with the Ridgeway would have been 1918... more likely 1919 or 1920. Then she went to the '39 Worlds fair which effectively ended her active service. So what is that? 34 years with no Ridgeway and 21 or 22 years with? The C&S began ops in Jan. 1899. The Ridgeway came along in 1918.... MAYbeeeee Late late 1917. For roughly half it's operation Ridgeways were NOT a part of it's venerable silhouette. I don't have a problem with her naked shotgun. I just wish she had flares on her tender to go with it!
