I did spend the better part of a full day going through the
www.shaylocomotives.com web site, including the drawings page. Sorry I forgot to mention that. Unfortunately the two drawings they have on that page are more of a challenge than I think I want to take on. My interest is more typical meaning it looks like a 3 truck only it has 4 trucks, they simply made a longer trailing bunker. Below is a picture of #1720 a 3-Cyl 4-Truck shay and what I call a regular D-Class 4-truck Shay. Below the photo is a link to the 4truck/4cylinder shay drawing from the drawings page. I think you will see from the drawing it would be tough to build - even for a master craftsman - and way above my pay grade.
My project is taking two Accucraft 3-Cyl 2-Truck Shays and making one 4-Truck Shay, neither is complete but I do have all 4 trucks. I could make one 3-cylinder or go for it all. It will be I guess what you call freelanced since as far as I can tell no 4-truck Shays were NG, but mine, providing I get it done, will be.
The main problem as I see it lies in getting the relationship right between the locoand the training bunker, and trucks 2-4. The engine frame does not extend fully over the #2 truck. And from the 15 or so pictures I found of 4-truck shays on the
www.shaylocomotives.com database trucks 2-4 were all connected by square slip drive shafts. So getting the spacing right will be critical if this thing doesn't have to have minimum 12-15' radius curves.
Thanks for the info.
