Larch was the mountain pass out of Sumpter and Alder Springs was the location of a trestle. Both on the main line of SV to Prairie City.
Larch had a ruling grade of 4 percent, while the Alder Springs trestle was perhaps the prettiest (if that word can be used to describe a trestle) as it was on a curve.
The row is still very much visible and easily found as Hwy. 7 as it crosses over Larch summit actually took part of the row at the top.
