Ouray Engine House

January 02, 2001 02:13PM
I have constructed a D&RGW two stall engine house as offered years ago in On3 by San Juan Engineering. This structure is similar to the one that stood at Ouray & Crested Butte. Plans state that the colors shold be depot buff exterior walls with chocolate colored windows and doors. My research shows the engine house doors to indeed be a chocolate color and the windows however to be white. Exterior appears to be a faded red color. This is based on Beam's photo's in the Vol II book by Sundance and the CRRM'S book on Ouray. Was the engine house at Ouray ever painted depot buff. I believe it burned before this could have ever happened as a latter photo taken in the 1930's shows the structure as still being a faded red color. Any imformation on engine house colors for two stall engine houses would be appreciated.
