On page 6 of the April Colorado Time-Table, there is an article on the new diesels that D&S purchased. According to the article, the #11 unit was built by U.S. Steel with GE electical components and is a 98 Ton unit. The # 9 unit is a 92 Ton and was built by GE in Erie PA.
The article also states that both units need some work; #11's wheels are reportly OK, but #9's need some work. Both units need Automatic brake systems installed and both units need some electical up grades. D&S hopes, as the units are repaired in the Roundhouse, that the Prime movers, generators, traction motors and gear boxes are OK. Both units will also need to have the cab roofs raised.
The railroad hopes to have both units in service this summer, with the first unit ready in mid-June. The railroad now owns seven diesels and nine steam locomotives.
Another note, the May issue of Colorado Time-Table states on page 3, with pictures, that PB#2 has been sold to the Yosemite Mountain Sugar Pine Railroad in Fish Camp CA. It was to be shipped some time in May. This unti was one of three 55 Ton GE units D&S purchased in 2002 from EBT. D&S is reportedly working to put the second unit back in service and is using the third for parts.
The last couple of days, there as been a diesel sitting right out side the dispatch tower on the D&S "Eye on the Yard". It looks like one of the 55 Ton units.
