According to the drawings, the side sills have two tennions which go 2 1/2 inches into the 6 inch thick end sills, they also have an 6 inch ear which sticks out below the endsill that has a 5/8 inch hole centered vertical. The endsill has a vertical coresponding hole. the bolt that fastens these together does not go through the tennions as it just clears the shorter tennions.
It's a lot clearer in the drawings than in this description. I believe that Bruce Maxwell offers prints from a tracing of one of the Gon erecting drawings that his father made.
Thanks to the late Jack Thode and the D&RGW, the Original D&RG pen and ink erection drawings for most of these cars are now in the DPL western history collection. At one time it was possible to purchase blueline copies from them.
