As a smog tech for over 20 years out in Calif. I have observed that most people think that if you can SEE the "SMOG" it must be bad. If you can't see anything, it must be OK. There was one car years ago that burned LOTS of oil, when I ran the test it passed with flying colors! Yet you couldn't see 25 feet in the shop for all of the oil smoke out the exhaust. Go figure.
