One thing did occur to me which was that if we were trying to portray 81 during the 40's, then at that time she was a dirt burner and a bit of smoke was very appropriate.
To comment on what Scott Turner just posted, as he said most of the usual things that are requested for runbys are not destructive to the equipment, but actually overfiring to make smoke does make me a bit uncomfortable. 19 hasn't had a history since it was rebuilt in the mid 90's of flue leaks or staybolt problems, but certainly overfiring to make smoke does it seems to me put some additional stress on the boiler as the pressure builds at a pretty rapid rate when overfiring. Does anyone know of instances where staybolt or flue failures have been related to this sort of operation?
