Looking west up Middle Creek Valley. The SLRG track is on the left side of the valley while on the right you can see the grade of the short lived narrow gauge Bald Mountain RR (1903-10). It interchanged with the D&RG at Occidental siding. While the D&RG climbed 3% up the valley, the BMRR ran level below the D&RG then looped across the canyon on a trestle and ran back east on the opposite side of the valley to a coal mine.
