Both the Chama and Antonito shops are busy, and the track crew was working up until Christmas Eve.
When I walked through the Chama shop several weeks ago, running gear work was starting on the 484, and boiler work on the 488. Not too long ago Ed posted a summary of the loco work this winter on the Friends web site; virtually all the engines need attention. The Antonito shop is busy repairing coaches. Until a few days ago the track crew was replacing 70 lb rail at MP 309 with 90 lb rail, both to upgrade the track and provide 70 lb rail for use in retaining wall construction that will begin next spring. The track crew is now off for several month.
