Durango hosted a 1,000 ton ice house with an 80-ft. platform.
Alamosa was home to a 2,000 ton house equipped with an "elevator," and 176 feet of icing platform.
(From the April 1923 Official Roster reproduced in Norwood's "Rio Grande Narrow Gauge.")
So the "six-day" assumption isn't required. A car loaded in Durango would probably be iced before loading, and perhaps again after loading but before departure.
A car loaded at an intermediate point would probably not be re-iced en route.
