RGS 74

For anyone interested in the restoration of RGS 74 (aka C&S 74 & C&N 30), I can provide the following update;
Work is progressing, the asbestos was removed in 1999 and a hydro test was performed on the boiler. A mechanical evaluation was completed in July of 2000, showing that the locomotive could be restored to operating condition for around $400,000. The end goal of the restoration is to return #74 to operating condition.
Recent work has focused on the tender. A grant was received to repair the front tender truck and we removed the truck on December 16. We will find out about a grant to restore the tender in January 2001.
The plan for the locomotive is to work to raise funds until August of 2001 and then decide , based on how much is raised, whether to pursue a cosmetic or operational restoration. We definetly need and welcome any help and support for this project.
The restoration of D&RGW coach #280, displayed with #74 in Boulder is nearing completion. We will have an open house for the coach at Uhrich Locomotive Works in Starsburg, Colorado on January 13 from 11am to 2pm. Anyone who is interested is invited.
