Let me try to answer this. I may have some of the history wrong. There has been recent research, etc. into the NPC car equipment roster.
The car was built by Kimball in San Francisco for the North Pacific Coast reportedly in 1875; it was numbered 8. Later to successor companies North Shore and Northwestern Pacific. Then sold 8-29-09 to Nevada-California-Oregon.
The car became either N-C-O #5 or #7 which were both reported in ICC valuation as being Kimball built. The cars show up as non-revenue work cars in the ICC valuation. For the date of acquisition I believe it became #7.
Both #5 and #7 were retired November 1928 when the line was converted to standard gauge. The carbody then went onto the ground at Wendell, Califonria as accomodations for crews.
Huckleberry reportedly acquired the car from Wendell in 1976. They have done an extensive -- and very nice -- restoration of body. I saw it a few years ago stored in the car building behind the shop. At that time it was sitting on freight car trucks.
