When the passenger train ran with 2 engines all the way from Alamosa to Chama, the second engine was the helper, with the regular crew normally assigned to the passenger train on the lead engine.
In 1932, the passenger engine crew would make a round trip on one day and have the following day off.
Two different helper crews handled the 471 on this date. The helper crew handling the 471 on train 115 was on the 479 on the eastbound flanger train.
