The Rio Grande Railway 2-4-2T locomotive in Brownsville, Texas was built in 1871 like the first the D&RG 2-4-0 locomotives. Although this engine was 42" gauge, quite a number of parts appear to be identical or similar if the extra width is taken out. Both types of locomotives had the same drivers and the same 9"x16" cylinders. The Kansas Central also two identical 2-4-0 locomotives that I believe were built between the D&RG #1 and #4, but I don't have my rosters with me to verify that. The Kansas Central also had a class 35 type 2-6-0 locomotive built in January 1872 that was like the D&RG #2. Be aware that the Gazette drawing of the 2-6-0 would only approximate the first group of D&RG class 35 locomotives as latter ones had 6 wheel tenders and some of them had two steam domes. If anyone knows of a source for the original Baldwin erection or parts drawing for these locomotives, please post the information here. The DeGolyer collection at SMU doesn't appear to have anything before 1876 and I don't think Pennsylvania does either.
