The original D&RGW bluepints for the Salida, CO Rolling Car Dumper state:
"Paint: 1 coat red lead and linseed oil."
What color that translates to for us modelers is probably a dark brown or almost black as the steel components weathered and were coated with the coal and limestone dust that was generated in the dumping process.
