Boulder Gorge is still very scenic with the fill approaching this trestle very obvious on the opposite side of the river from the highway. In the old days the highway was perched on a ledge high above the rr grade. At some point, after the rr was gone the hwy was placed down where the rr was and at this location a huge amount of rock was blasted out to put the hwy on solid ground without any bridge. In the early days of the SVRy there was a Howe Truss bridge at this point often refered to as "Red Bridge".
