Actually, in those days, #464 was fitted with one of those really large wedge plows and often based in Chama for the purpose of helping to keep the line open.
It is photographed in Dennis O'Berry's "Mudhen" book with that plow in Chama in the 30's, as I recall, sitting beside the enginehouse.
So, it really hadn't strayed too far East at all, and may have just been run to Alamosa so it could plow Westbound if the Rotary wasn't required after the coming storm.
1932 was pre-San Juan days, and I'm not sure when the 470's, which usually carried the daily passenger train, started carrying plows in the winter.
#464 had a serious job to do out of Chama in those days.
