I took this pictures of the VFCO in Brazil back in 1977. A friend wanted copies so I did some quick scans and thought I might share them here before they go back into deep "storage". If I remember correctly the gauge is 30 inches or so, the engines are all Baldwins. The VFCO was headquartered in Sao Joao del Rei, a very pretty old colonial city maybe 100 miles northwest of Rio. At one time it was a fairly extensive ng. system. The facilities at Sao Joao del Rei have been preserved as a museum, and they have a few miles to track that they can run excursion trains on. I believe Trains Unlimited has visited in the recent past, and will again this year. On my various world travels this was the most colorful ng. line I ever ran into, although I understand some of the sugar cane lines in Java are also pretty colorful. My comments about the VFCO are from memory, so if anybody has better information I would welcome corrections or additions. For example, I have no idea how long they lasted as an operating railroad.
