Don't know if this helps or is just obvious, but I'll offer it up anyway. The reason for snowsheds on wyes was so that snow clearing equipment could be turned. Since at least one part of the turning movement had to be in reverse, one leg of the wye had to be covered with a snowshed (or else it would have to be hand cleared). Snowsheds used on the mainline were generally used where the snow was likely to become to deep for regular snow clearing equipment to remove it.
This doesn't really explain why Lizard Head was completely covered, unless it was because the snow there was generally just too deep to be cleared.
