I helped restore, and then managed and maintained a Looff-Mangels carousel that had been built in 1890. For twenty-five years it was my personal charge It was part of a family trust. Two years ago the trust was taken over by the bank that had been handling the families mony. They declared it "not a suitable asset" and turned it over to an amusement auction company. It was sold to a private individual who did not want his identity known for $715,000. The good ,old stuff is in danger of disappearing, if we don't stay alert.
