From the Friends of the C&TS web site (news page, VIEW FROM THE HEADEND -- Ed McLaughlin -- Nov 2, 2000):
CHRISTMAS TRIP:
Yes Virginia, there is a Christmas train this year on the C&TS. Schedules call for it to be on the line December 9th and 10th with departures at 1:00 PM and returning around 4:00 PM. Rates for the trip will be $10.00 Children 2 thru 11, and $20.00 for adults; no discounts.
This will of course be a steam hauled train from Chama Depot out to Lobato passing track where Santa Claus will board for the return trip back to Chama. He likes to ride the train so we are doing it for two days in a row this year.
Since this will most likely be a winter wonderland experience in the snow, the snowplow off the #484 has been taken to the shop for possible installation on the #489, as it will be the road unit used on the Christmas Train. We are using the old-fashion boxcar coaches and the trip will be just like the good old days on the C&TS. Therefore it is strongly recommended that we bundle up warm for this one. It should be fun and a true Christmas adventure. To make reservations for the Chama Christmas Trip, call the railroad at 888-286-2737.
We like running Christmas trains so much that we are also looking into having one in Antonito. This should be a snow trip up to Lava. More details will follow on a pending Antonito trip.
