The Crystal compressor house is seemingly one of the most photographed buildings in the state - lots of image of it have been published in various tourist and ghost town guides for the past half-century. I'll have to check my dad's slides - I'm sure he took one or more of it when we were living in the area summers (approximately 1961 - 1966).
I think the Crystal River narrow gauge only ran from Redstone to Coal Basin. The Crystal River & San Juan, Treasury Mountain, and the Yule Marble Co. tram were all standard gauge. So all the railroads serving Marble directly were standard gauge, IIRC.
I've heard from a friend that the jeep road up the Crystal Canyon between Crystal and Schofield Park is dubious at best, and not recommended. Forty years ago it was pretty decent, easy enough to navigtate in any 4 wheel drive, and, if one was careful, a conventional sedan. Someone succesfully got a Lincoln Continental down from Schofield Park to Crystal.
Thanks for the memories...
