Just thought some of you may enjoy this...I don't have a lot of time to type it up but I wanted you to be able to view it today for obvious reasons.
The information comes from D&RGW locomotive inspection reports. Of particular interest is the note under repairs needed on the 360 about her sand valve. Also the fact that the inspection report for 278 is filled out by the Boiler Maker. Was this because the engineer didn't fill it out, or had the 278 just gotten out of the shop and not gone out on the road yet or what?
Locomotive #360
Inspected at Gunnison at 7:45 pm. Date: Oct 11, 1946.
Condition of injectors, gauge cocks, lubricator, water glass cocks and shields, valve and cylinder packing, valve stem packing,flange oiler, piston rod packing, air compressors, and brakes all good. Main resevoir, low pressure at 100 lbs. Brake pipe pressure at 80 lbs. Indepedent or Straight Air Pressure at 45 lbs.
Safety valves lift at 160 and seat at 157. Condition of sanders and pipes-Good. Does engine steam? Yes.
Repairs needed:
Tighten left link block bolt pin.
When throttle is wide open-the sand valve is inaccessible account of throttle and feed valve-either put longer handle on the valve or change location.

Condition of all appliances good. Main resevoir high pressure-110 lbs. Brake pipe pressure-80 lbs. Independent-40 lbs. Safety lifts at 160, seats at 155.
Repairs needed:
Clean cab windows and back of tank.
