Actually Ron, when 3 first went back in service, it was Jerry, you and I that reassembled the rear U joints 90 deg. out of whack with one another, but I am not sure how the side rods were timed, so I guess we can't give Jerry too hard a time.
When the pinion gear was taken loose from the bevel gear on the front truck there would be ample oportunity to be a few gear teeth off, besides the opportunity to change the relationship on where the side rods are at the time of assembling the drive shaft, when the truck was put back under the engine.
I kinda doubt that the old timers working an all nighter out in a logging camp reassembling a driveshaft would have given a .&@# about how the side rods were timed.
