Kevin ... The coal mine in operation near Hesperus is known at "King Coal Mine."
Currently the D&SNG and C&TS use coal from this mine, as the quality is very good. Also near Gallup, NM there is a loop track with connections to the std gauge BNSF. Coal from this mine is trucked to the loop, goes into open top hopper cars and sent to the customers, which happen to be a cement plant in Mexico, a cement plant at Clarkdale, AZ, and a lime plant at Nelson, AZ.
