The story of how these came to be on the C&TS was recently repeated here. There is one that is suitable for use (JBWX 1), however ironically it's spent the summer on an isolated piece of track and hasn't been used. The C&TS has 2 ex-B&AP (I believe) cars which Marvin modified to increase the slope sheet angles and these appear to be the ones that get used the most. Besides the 19 on a good day can only handle 2 loads westbound out of Los Pinos where they were loading.
The topic has come up a couple of times of the Friends restoring the rest. We have some members very capable of this work, but in reality there's just too many historic cars that need work to spend time on the EBT cars. The agreement has always been the Operator or Commission would take care of stuff used for regular passenger service and track maintenance, and the Friends would take care of historic equipment which would otherwise rot to death. If we were asked to fix them up we would, but only if they paid for materials. In the current environment, this isn't going to happen.
If you really want to work on steel cars, we've got two "Gramps cars" which need restored !
