I am confused
The best I can remember is the Friends had nothing to do with the expenditure of the 483 funds other than to donate money. Dick Cowles posted an explanation below. (Thanks Dick)
Dicks Post: "Actually, the several thousand dollars raised by Jay from 483 supporters was given over to the Commission back in 2001 (or so) and was used by then-Executive Director Leo Schmitz as part of the match for the Friends project to remove the jacketing and asbestos from 483 and 492 followed by coating the boilers with rust-preventitive. LANL provided the grant and Friends contributions and the 483 fund monies provided the necessary match. So the funds raised by Jay and others have helped preserved 483 for future restoration."
IMHO: If the Friends participate by controlling the funds that is good enough for me. History is history and we all need to put our effort into today and the future. I trust the judgment of the Friends to make good decisions on how the 483 money will be spent and they have a BOD to decide what is or isn't a appropriate expenditure.
