One of my prized possessions is a negative that Dick Kindig gave me of 472 on the Shavano in Gunnison in 1938. She looks brand new. Have an 11x14 print of it hanging on the wall above my computer. Have a print of an offcial D&RGW photo of 472 and 479 double heading on the Shavano. They normally used a 490 as helper, so it was neat to see two 28s on that train.
474 was my favorite K28 as she was used on my beloved Crested Butte branch, but all of them are great engines. I always remember a D&RGW engineer telling me about running 479 on the Shavano between Sargents and Gunnison. It is where they made up lost time and get in some fast running (fast for narrow gauge).
